College of Science - Biological Sciences - Don Huntley Biotechnology Graduate Research Scholarship

The Don Huntley Biotechnology Graduate Research Scholarship was funded by a generous gift from Dr. Don B. Huntley. Each year the award will be given in the amount of $2,000 to a graduate student who has demonstrated inspiring research efforts and accomplishments in the field of biotechnology.

ELIGIBILITY:

• The applicant must have completed at least one year of study at CPP.
• The student must have a graduate GPA of at least 3.5.
• The student must conduct research under the supervision of a Cal Poly Pomona faculty member in the field of Biotechnology (technology based on biology).
• An individual may not receive this scholarship more than once.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

1) Application form: Applicants must complete the Cal Poly Pomona General Application and all requirements below.
2) Transcripts: Submit a transcript of your coursework at Cal Poly Pomona as well as transferred coursework from other schools (unofficial transcripts are accepted).
3) Personal Statement: Each applicant must provide a statement (not more than 1,000 words) describing your research project and relevant accomplishments, including but not limited to research progress, publications and meeting presentations.
4) Recommendation Letter: One letter of recommendation is required from the applicant’s research supervisor. The letter should be addressed to the Scholarships and Awards Committee. In addition, the recommender’s letter must cover ALL scholarships/awards for which the student is applying, NOT separate letters for each scholarship. Biological sciences strongly recommends replacing existing references every year.
5) Curriculum Vitae: Include a 1-page CV outlining all relevant accomplishments and activities related to this award.

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION AND AWARD NOTIFICATION DATE:

A committee comprised of members of the Biological Sciences faculty will review the applications and select the scholarship recipient. The committee will look particularly at past accomplishments and the future potential of each applicant. The scholarship recipient will be notified of the result of their application in the fourth week of April, and the Scholarship will be presented near the end of the Spring Semester at the Department of Biological Sciences Awards Ceremony.

In addition to the scholarship, the recipient will be given a certificate of recognition, and their name will be added to a plaque of commendation in the Department Office.
