College of Science - Biological Sciences - Arthur L. Markovits Memorial Biological Sciences Endowed Scholarship

The Arthur L. Markovits Memorial Biological Sciences Endowed Scholarship will support Biological Sciences majors in the College of Science who are active in their community or those who have a part-time job.

ELIGIBILITY

• Open to Continuing students
• Applicants must be Biology, Biotechnology, or Environmental Biology majors in the Department of Biological Sciences
• Applicants must be Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing when receiving scholarship disbursements
• Full or part-time enrollment at the time of receiving disbursement
• Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Applicants must be US Citizens
• Scholarship is renewable for multiple years (previous recipients can apply for future years as long as they meet the stated criteria)

PREFERENCE
Preference will be given to students who are active in their local communities or those who have a part-time job.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Application form: Applicants must complete the Cal Poly Pomona General Application and all requirements below.
2) Personal statement: Each applicant must write a brief letter describing their current academic interests, as well as future academic and career aspirations. The personal statement should also describe an outside job or other community involvement that the student is engaged in. Competitive essays will include a description of transferrable skills gained from the community engagement or employment that will aid the student in their future career ambitions. The personal statement should not exceed 1,000 words.
3) Resume or curriculum vitae: Submit a complete and up-to-date resume (or curriculum vitae).
4) Transcripts: Submit a transcript of your coursework at Cal Poly Pomona as well as transferred coursework from other schools (unofficial transcripts are accepted)

Recipients will be asked to write a Thank you letter to donor upon receiving notification of award.

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION AND AWARD NOTIFICATION DATE
A committee comprised of faculty members of the Biological Sciences Department will review the applications and select the scholarship recipient. The scholarship recipient will be notified at the end of April, and the scholarship will be presented near the end of the Spring Semester at the Biological Sciences Department Awards Ceremony.

In addition to the scholarship, the scholarship recipient will be given a certificate of recognition, and their name will be added to a perpetual plaque of commendation in the Biological Sciences Department Office.
