ENV - Landscape Architecture - Dangermond Research Fellowship

These fellowships are to expand the intellectual horizons of Landscape Architecture students through the research and study of Landscape Architecture or Geodesign. Fellowship objectives can focus on research into: a particular designer or group of designers representing an identified landscape theory, style, or transition of styles; works that are exemplary in their application of ecological design, sustainability, or regenerative principles; innovative works or projects related to or using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in their design or function; or works that expand the practice of landscape architecture. Compelling proposals on other topics developed by the applicant will also be considered. Funds can be used for travel, and/or research related expenses.

Award Period: Fall 2025

Criteria:

• Open to undergraduate (BSLA) or graduate (MLA) students
• Must be enrolled full-time at the time of disbursement (12-units or more for undergraduates and 6-units or more for graduate students)
• Complete general scholarship application
  - Statement of Intent (two-pages max) with well-developed research objective(s), description of expected products/deliverables from the fellowship, and the relationship of these objectives to the applicant’s career goals. (Generic statements will be scored lower than well-written statements addressing the intentions of the scholarship)
• Research Budget (two-pages max) and budget narrative describing specific research or travel related expenses identified in the statement. Research expenses should include a description of the item(s)/activity. Stipend/living expenses can be included in the budget. For travel related expenses, a proposed itinerary listing destinations, tentative dates of travel, travel mode (car, train, air, et cetera), and names of any persons to be visited during the trip, especially designers, academics, officials, or other experts
  - Current resume (one-page)
  - A4 size digital portfolio:
  - Maximum of 8-page spreads of A4 size (16 total pages) in a single PDF.
  - Projects are a curated selection of work that relate to the fellowship objectives.

Previous recipients of the Dangermond Fellowship are not eligible to apply

Note:
- Post-award requirements include a thank-you letter to donor, report of findings/activities (by the end of Fall 2025), and a public presentation (Spring 2026).
- Fellowship recipients must provide a hard copy of their portfolio, statement of intent, budget/itinerary and thank you letter, submitted to the Department Landscape Architecture office by June 1, 2025.
The report on findings/activities must be submitted to the department by the end of Fall Semester 2025, unless an extension is requested. All research activities should be completed in 2025
