CLASS - COM - Frank A. Tennant Endowed Scholarship

A $6,250 annual scholarship will be awarded to multiple applicants – high school students who are already accepted to Cal Poly Pomona (proof will be needed before the start of the awarding academic year), freshmen, sophomores, and juniors (seniors are not eligible to apply). Students active in student clubs and organizations on campus are particularly encouraged to apply.

Students who received an annual scholarship in the previous year are eligible to re-apply. The scholarship will be disbursed to recipients in two installments of $3,125 per semester (total of $6,250 per academic year while the student is either freshmen, sophomore, junior, or senior).

Applicants who are re-applying for the scholarship after already receiving it for the previous year, must maintain membership in at least one the following professional organizations: the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ); The Poly Post (newspaper); or the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Please provide this information in the supplemental statement.

• Must be a declared Communication major, either journalism or public relations track, at the freshman, sophomore, or junior level.
• Minimum GPA of 3.25.
• Write a supplemental statement describing why they want to be a journalist or PR professional in no more than 250 words.
• Provide name and email address of two references

Selection Process: Awards each year are based on the student’s general application and supplemental responses. The Scholarship Committee of the Department of Communication will decide the recipients. Note – finalists may be interviewed by the Communication Department’s Student Scholarship Committee.
