LOGRAR/PPOHA Grant

Leverage Opportunities for Graduate Research and Resources (LOGRAR)/Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (PPOHA) Grant

Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the LOGRAR Project at Cal Poly Pomona is dedicated to supporting underrepresented and low-income graduate students attain postbaccalaureate degrees. The LOGRAR Project is managed by the Graduate Resource Center of Cal Poly Pomona. All CPP graduate students who meet eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply.

The $5,000 scholarship is awarded to the student’s Bronco portal to offset the expense of tuition. Students can only receive one $5,000 award during their graduate studies at Cal Poly Pomona.

Eligibility:
• U.S. citizen, permanent resident (Undocumented and international students are currently not eligible to apply)
• Master’s and Ed.D. students enrolled full-time (min. 6 units) at Cal Poly Pomona as of fall 2024
• Previous enrollment in current program of study for a minimum of one semester
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA application (“financial need” is determined by a FAFSA )

Required Application Materials:

  1. Statement of Intent (1000 word max.) that demonstrates some of the following: Career Aspirations; Professional Experience; Qualifications, Reasons for choosing your field of study and how you plan to apply that knowledge practically; Extracurricular Activities; and, Achievements and extraordinary accomplishments. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to serving underrepresented student groups are highly encouraged to apply.
    • Faculty Questionnaire. Faculty Questionnaire MUST BE SUBMITTED BY FACULTY THROUGH THE BSP PORTAL BY THE DEADLINE.* (The GRC is not responsible for questionnaires that are submitted after the deadline.)

Application Process/ Projected Timeline:
• October 1: Scholarship Application opens
• November 30 at 11:59 p.m. PST: Scholarship Application deadline
• December 2-December 20: Selection Committee Review Process
• End of December: Awarded Students Notified

Selected students will be asked to submit a Thank You letter upon scholarship offer.

  1. Provide the name and email address of a Cal Poly Pomona Faculty that can provide a recommendation on your behalf
  2. In no more than 1,000 words please upload a Statement of Intent that includes: (1) details of student’s long-term career goals; (2) description of the student’s motivation and initiative in pursuit of career goals; (3) explanation of the impact a LOGRAR Scholarship will have in helping them achieve their career goals; and (5) a discussion of any other relevant information that the selection committee should consider in their decision.
