Sci - Geology - Ernest Prete, Jr. Geological Sciences Scholarship

The Ernest Prete, Jr. Geological Sciences Scholarship consists of two parts: a $1,000 scholarship and a placement of the recipient’s name on a plaque displayed in the office of the Geological Sciences Department. The scholarship will be presented during a brief ceremony at the Cal Poly Pomona Geological Sciences Department Alumni Reunion on May 5th, 2018 (location TBD).

This scholarship will be awarded for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Although the goal is to give this scholarship every year, the overriding intention is to recognize an individual whose commitment and level of effort is truly outstanding. To this end, there is no stipulated requirement that the award be given every year.

• Geological Science majors who are seniors (will have completed 135 units by June of this academic year)
• Demonstrate outstanding commitment to the field of Earth Sciences with emphasis in Environmental Studies or Planetary Science
• Must be in Good Academic Standing – GPA must be greater than or equal to 2.0
• No Citizenship or Permanent Residency Required

Note: Applicants may be invited for a personal interview. This brief interview will be conducted during the annual Board of Directors meeting, and will serve as a means to establish commonalities between the applicant, the senior thesis proposal, and stated ideals and career goals.
