The Kevin T. Colaner Student Advocacy Scholarship

Since he joined Cal Poly Pomona in 2008, Kevin brought dynamic energy, creativity, leadership and a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion. His leadership guided us through countless challenges, transitions, and complex situations. Knowing that we are stronger when we come together, he worked hard to build bridges with humor and authenticity. Kevin had the ability to bring out the best of us. Kevin was an incredible advocate for students and exhibited that in his numerous roles across campus. Whether dressing up as the Children’s Center Santa Claus, attending the Renaissance Scholar Thanksgiving Dinner, or assisting with finals in the Disability Resource Center, championing student success came naturally to him. Bringing his leadership to National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) at a national level, he served on the 2019 Annual Conference Leadership Committee and the Center for First Generation Student Success Advocacy Group. At Cal Poly Pomona he re-established the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program, mentoring underrepresented students with first cohort of fellows completing the program in 2019. To honor his contributions to NASPA, Kevin was awarded the Region VI Fred Turner Award for Outstanding Service to NASPA, the equivalent to a lifetime achievement award, in October 2019.

The Kevin T. Colaner Student Advocacy Scholarship honors Dr. Kevin Colaner and to continue Kevin’s legacy and strong commitment to student success through his
mentorship and student advocacy efforts. An annual scholarship will be awarded eligible students actively who are engaged in acts of advocacy or mentoring and
who have exhibited exceptional achievement in supporting others in need.

Students from underrepresented groups (Renaissance Scholars, LGBTQ, first-generation, etc.) are encouraged to apply.
